This is not at all like “backyard croquet” many of us played as kids. This is a serious, hard hitting, highly precise and strategic sport. The clearance between the ball and the wicket, as it goes through, is the thickness of a quarter.
Some of the best players in the world will be playing for a $6,000 purse, so the competition will be fierce.
We have one Egyptian player and another visiting, so if time allows, there will be an “announced” demonstration of “Croquet the Egyptian Way” on Sunday at noon.
The Egyptian style play involves striking the ball extremely hard, sending it flying at 40 mph, sometimes scoring a wicket across the full length of the court; or jumping one ball in the air over another already in the wicket from 10 feet or more away. I am a bit confused about the tickets. Does one ticket (i.e. $20 ticket for Sunday) allow you to watch all the matches from all the different sports going on that day? Or is it one ticket per sport? I understand that Sat. tickets are divided into daytime and nighttime tickets.
