Hawks Score Opening Win in Barry Cup

The Hawks, the only team in 20-goal competition with a 10-goal player in its lineup, scored a decisive 15-8 win over Lechuza Caracas in the opening game of the 2010 Joe Barry Memorial Cup.

After trailing 2-1 after the first chukker of play, the Hawks relied on a realigned lineup and balanced scoring to four goals on the scoreboard in the second chukker while holding Lechuza Caracas to a single Guille Aguero goal. Single goals from Julian Mannix, Mariano Aguerre and Cachi Garcia in the third were answered by a single goal from Lechuza’s field captain, Victor Vargas, and the Hawks took an 8-4 halftime lead.

The two teams traded goal for goal through the fourth and fifth chukkers, with the Hawks holding on to the four-goal lead, 11-7, going into the final chukker of play.

The Hawks poured it on again in the sixth, scoring another four goals while holding Lechuza to a single goal from Nicolas Espain.

Julian Mannix led the Hawks (1-0) with six goals. Mariano Aguerre and Fred Mannix, Jr. scored four goals apiece as 10-goaler Mariano directed the relentless attack. Cachi Garcia added a single goal as the Hawks scored the first win of the Barry Cup.

Nicolas Espain scored three goals for Lechuza. Guille Aguero and Victor Vargas added two goals apiece and Santiago Torres added a single goal in the loss.
