WELLINGTON — The 2010 Joe Barry Memorial Cup kicks off Saturday with a 1 p.m. game that will be a bit of a family affair. John Goodman’s Wanderers/Isla Carroll team will play nephew Bo Goodman’s Mt. Brilliant lineup in the opening match of season’s second major tournament.
Saturday’s 3 p.m. match features Lechuza Caracas’ season debut against the Hawks. Barry Cup competition will continue Sunday with a noon match between Bendabout and Faraway Polo.

Mt. Brilliant, Faraway Polo, Lechuza Caracas and Lucchese will be playing their first games of the 2010 season, joining The Wanderers/Isla Carroll, Bendabout, the Hawks, Patagones and Zacara.
Barry Cup play will culminate in the tournament finals at 3 p.m. Jan. 24.
The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is named after American polo legend Joe Barry, who died May 18, 2002, at age 58. Born and raised in Texas, he achieved a 9-goal rating and dominated polo in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s.
Barry won six U.S. Open championships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups as well as the Coronation Cup (USA vs. England) and Camacho Cup (USA vs. Mexico) trophies.
One of the greatest No. 4s in polo history, Barry was elected to the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999.
