DEFEATS BLACK WATCH 7-6 MONDAY AT INTERNATIONAL POLO CLUB PALM BEACH
January 26, 2004 WELLINGTON,
Florida - Everglades was held scoreless over the final two
chukkers but held on to defeat Black Watch 7-6 in a 22-goal Ylvisaker
Cup polo match Monday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
Despite the loss, Black Watch clinched a spot in Thursday’s
semifinals against San Saba. Catamount plays Crab Orchard in the
other semifinal. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Owen Rinehart and Tomas Llorente led Everglades with three goals
apiece while Skeeter Johnston scored one goal.
Facundo Pieres and Nacho Figueres scored two goals each to lead
Black Watch while Neil Hirsch and Nachi Astrada scored one goal
apiece.
In another first-round round-robin game, 10-goaler Mariano Aguerre
scored six goals to lead White Birch over Texas Polo 10-8. Trailing
8-6 heading into the final chukker, Aguerre scored three unanswered
goals to give White Birch the lead at 9-6. Todd Offen added a late
goal for the final margin. Milo Araujo led Texas Polo with five
goals.
The Ylvisaker Cup in named in honor of William T. “Bill”
Ylvisaker, a polo pioneer who founded Palm Beach Polo and Country
Club in the late 1970s and was elected into the Polo Hall of Fame
in 1996. Ylvisaker, who has been involved in polo for some 50 years,
has won numerous major polo tournaments, including the prestigious
U.S. Open in 1972.
The polo matches are open to the public. Tickets for the Sunday
games at the International Polo Club Palm Beach are available at

International Polo Club Palm Beach is located at 3667 120th Avenue
South in Wellington. From I-95, take the Forest Hill Boulevard exit
and go west approximately 12 miles. Turn left onto South Shore Boulevard
and go two miles. Turn left onto Pierson Road, travel about one
mile and then make a right onto 120th Avenue South. The club is
on the right. From Florida’s Turnpike, take Exit 93 (Lake
Worth Road) and go west about six miles. Make a right onto 120th
Avenue South. The club is on the left.
